SPECIAL SERVICE FREIGHT
Special Service Freight Company is a multi-location, asset-based, ground freight and air-cargo company. We are headquartered in Charlotte, NC, and have been in business for over 30 years.
Our Mission Statement is "To treat our customers as 'Primus inter pares' (first among equals) in a mutually beneficial, respectful and ethical business partnership".
The Company operates 13 full-service warehouse terminals offering coverage in over 2500 zip codes centered around twenty cities in the Southeast. Our major operational and handling hubs are Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC.
Warehousing facilities and vehicle fleets are located in 5 states:
Florida - Orlando, (which also services Tampa), and Miami (who also service Ft. Myers, Key West, Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale), - 1171 zip codes serviced.
Georgia - Atlanta and Savannah, - 300 zip codes serviced.
North Carolina - Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh and Wilmington, - 680 zip codes serviced.
South Carolina - Charleston, Columbia (also services Augusta, GA and Myrtle Beach) and Greenville, - 250 zip codes serviced.
Tennessee - Nashville, – 102 zip codes serviced.
We partner with other quality focused companies to provide another nine full service warehouse locations servicing 13 cities and 1500 zip codes in the Southeast, including:
Alabama - Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobil, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa
Florida - Pensacola
Tennessee - Chattanooga and Knoxville (which also services the Tri-City area of Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport).
Our network is not only linked in a physical way, but is on a common EDI capable Communication and Freight Tracking system, so customers can receive instant EDI messaging updates, Email status updates or, through a secure web portal, view freight location, charges and documentation anywhere in the Southeast at a single glance.
In addition to first/last mile Pick-up and Delivery services, and line hauls from/to ATL throughout five Southeastern States we offer many other services inclusive:
Multi-city retail roll-outs;
White glove delivery/asset recovery;
Convention/exposition support, and;
Time-critical hotshots and air charter support.
We operate Customs Bonded Container Freight Stations in ATL, CHS, CLT, GSO, GSP, HSV, MOB, PNS, RDU, SAV, & TYS, and the entire network fleet is a bonded 'common carrier' for movement throughout the 48 states.
The majority of the fleet consists of air-ride 26’ Straight Trucks with lift gates, Cargo and Sprinter Vans, and many Stations also operate Tractor/trailer units.
All locations are 100% TSA compliant.
Over the past few turbulent years many large and small cartage companies have suddenly pulled out of a market causing major service failures in their withdrawal, but we have the longevity, experience, broad coverage, asset critical mass and financial sustainability to respond to changes, and be available when you need us.

June 1987: Special Service Freight Company, Charlotte, was established as an agent location for Special Freight Service Company, who operated in the Tri-State area and was headquartered in New Jersey.
Within months of establishing the Charlotte location, the two local managers were forced to incorporate as a new and separate company when the ‘parent’ NJ operation closed down, and so, in August 1987 Special Service Freight Company of the Carolinas, Inc. was born.
Initially servicing the Charlotte air cargo market with just a couple of vans and trucks, the Company began to broaden its presence by establishing licensee locations throughout the Carolinas.
Wilmington, NC opened in October 1988, followed by Greenville, SC and Greensboro, NC the following month, November, 1988.
Five years later, October 1993, Special Service opened an office in Asheville, NC and Columbia, SC began operations in June 1994.
The final expansion under the original owners was the opening of Charleston, SC in July 2003.
Special Service continued operating exclusively in the Carolinas until October 2005 when it was sold by its founders to the current Owner and President, Steve Perriman.
The Company now operates 13 terminals offering service in twenty cities spread across Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina and Tennessee. The Carolinas and Georgia operations are all linked with a dedicated nightly line haul service operated by the company, as are Miami and Orlando.
We have also established a partnership network with other local cartage providers that extend our customer service into Alabama, and deeper into Tennessee and the Florida panhandle. These are also serviced by line hauls out of the main Atlanta hub.

This is a high profile customer, Disney on Ice, that insists on the highest level of service and timely, seamless freight transactions... I would be remiss to not bring to your attention the terrific level of professionalism and service that Joseph rendered in this very important operation. He was on time at all locations and supervised the shipment in such a manner that I was totally at ease with his work ethic....he responded promptly to all phone calls and was courteous and polite.
I feel Joseph should be commended for his work and his "get it done” attitude. He is truly an asset to your fine company.

I have been working with Anthony Toledo on a large project for Disney Orlando. It is project cargo over an 8 week period and continues to be active.
My project business is hugely complicated with multiple component, service levels, and deadlines. It is very difficult to navigate under the best of circumstances. Add Mickey Mouse to this component and it has been utter chaos. One of my most challenging build outs ever.
Anthony has been detail oriented, flexible, calm (I need that :}) and a true PARTNER in managing this project. I can confirm that I have been utterly unreasonable and he has been un-phased. He has gone WELL over his obligation as a service provider and became an extension of me and my team.

I had a pickup that needed to happen on 10/5. The agent that did the delivery and was holding the crate was completely booked. I reached out to Bryan Mowry at Special Service. He listened attentively to my requirements and then went above and beyond to acquire the crate and make the pickup happen at the required date/time. Bryan answered all my emails and made sure I got my pod hard copies and charges. (There was a holdup in Crown and he contacted whom he needed so I could have my paperwork.)
It has been a pleasure to work with Bryan and I will definitely use him again.

Hi Steve! I’ve been meaning to send this but have been back logged. On Labor Day weekend I had a super-hot shipment that was coming into RDU. Your RDU office did a phenomenal job. This shipment was a medical shipment delivering directly to the hospital where they were holding a patient for surgery while waiting for it to come in. The driver was waiting to pick it up at the airport, took it immediately there. Brian @ RDU worked with me non-stop to get it set up and keep me up to date. I couldn’t have asked for better service. Pleasant, professional, and even worried about the patient who was waiting on the freight! Big GIANT KUDOS to your Raleigh office!!!

Daly from that office actually called our office yesterday and got my cell number so that she could update me via text - mind you this is without us having to ask or request updates, she took it on herself to do that and I have to say I'm impressed. I wish that all our vendors were that customer oriented and proactive. She was super on top of everything and VERY pleasant to work with. Overall this is one of the best experiences I've had with a vendor while on call. Very proactive, very responsive, and again, great to work with.

--- If I must add a further comment from myself, the driver called here around 4:45 and notified me that he was running behind w/ the delivery however he should be there no later than 5:15. He was also very friendly with me and was able to provide the tracking information right away (which most people don’t have it ready when I need it). He also called me right back when he was complete with the order and still very proper, presentable and nice.

Steve, Charles, I have not talked to you gentlemen in a while, but wanted to touch base with you about your Tampa and Miami teams.
We sent close to 100 shipments through their terminals this past weekend (not including the 50 or so we sent them the previous week) for expedited deliveries that had to be made over the weekend. They got almost every one delivered on Saturday as requested and handled them professionally at all times.
Even Terry in your Atlanta terminal helped me a few times on Saturday when I could not get through to an on call person in TPA and MIA.
I wish the other agents I use across the country were as good as Special Service Freight. Please let me know if there is anything we here at EFW may be of assistance with.
